Why We Do This

Both Mitra and Jonathan brought a third culture perspective to the traditional work of ministry in a brick-and-mortar context. Both are acutely aware that the rate of societal change has impacted the ways all Americans engage with religious institutions. Over the last few decades, more and more people are comfortable identifying as spiritual, but not religious. While each individuals’ relationship with “that which is larger than all of us”, be it theology or philosophy, is a rich and significant area of growth, we believe that people were not made to live alone.  We all do better when we have others to support, challenge, and grow with us.

We also know that our current culture is fractured.  The current norm is to take refuge among similar people. While this instinct might be comforting, we are offering something more valuable than the comfort of homogeneity. To create community with people whose philosophical grounding is different from yours, or whose demographic categorizations are different from yours, or who are just plain different – well, this is where life gets more interesting!  At Courage and Covenant, we honor the courage it takes to reach out from a place of deep authenticity to make connections across our differences. We celebrate the creation of covenantal communities – communities where we wish the best for each other because we know that life is richer and the world more complete when we are together.

What we offer is deliberately countercultural. We value slow growth, deep consideration of the life we live.

You will find that through our podcasts, we show respect to the (sometimes forgotten) stories of history and find what is special in the stories of the every day. We will look closely at scriptures from different traditions and explore the impact of art and music on our lives.

The world we create is a reflection of the beauty and dignity of all humanity. At Courage and Covenant, we invite you to join our work of dignifying each other and the lives we live.
